  • Electric Bass

Electric bass doesn't usually attract the same sort of person as the guitar. maybe be it doesn't seem as glamorous as the guitar - you don't get many bass heroes! However without the bass most rock and other styles can sound thin and wanting. As a guide people don't notice bass they feel it. Timing and note placement are essential skills on the bass and nothing can beat that feeling of playing live and making the house shake. A powerful and mysterious instrument and an invaluable part of any rhythm section and it requires an imtimate understanding of how every thing fits together. I love to teach the bass!!!

  • Double Bass

Electric double bass is a relatively new instrument for me. Its quite a change from standard electric bass, it requires a vice like left hand strength and there are of course no frets. The bonus is that you cannot play the bass like a guitarist, you must utilise open strings whenever possible and this gives the charataristic sound you would associate with the double bass. In addition using open string forces you to stay in tune with them, helping with the pitching.

I do nor claim to be an expert on this yet but the theory and function is identical to any bass. so if you are starting out on this instrument, I can certainly point you in the right direction!
